Another busy and productive week at the JCB Skills Academy has highlighted the growing impact of partnership working, skills development and community collaboration across North Wales.
During the week, nine learners took part in The King’s Trust “Get into Construction” pilot programme, while 12 learners from Coleg Cambria visited the Academy to use the Tenstar Simulation AB driving simulators and complete a sustainability workshop delivered in partnership with Pathway to Carbon Zero.
The week also included a series of partnership meetings focused on future projects, employability and skills development opportunities across the region.
Discussions included meetings with representatives from Barclays regarding the introduction of banking and financial awareness workshops at the Academy, and with staff from Ysgol Y Grango to develop a new vocational skills programme for Year 10 and 11 pupils.
Further collaboration meetings explored opportunities to expand the use of the NEWSA programme and simulator technology within prisons across South Wales, alongside discussions around employability, accommodation and support needs for individuals leaving HMP Berwyn.
Additional meetings took place with Kronospan UK to discuss bespoke training requirements, and with partners including Wrexham AFC Foundation, Communities for Work Plus and the MAPS Programme to explore future opportunities supporting projects in Caia Park.
The week concluded with representatives from Wavehill meeting one of the programme’s graduates to discuss the wider impact of the NEWSA initiative.
The activity reflects the growing momentum behind collaborative approaches to skills, employability and community development across the region.
